Cleaning up India Campaign

Since its launch on 2nd October, 2014, ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (Clean India Campaign) has been doing rounds of every newspapers headline till date. Prime Minister Narendra Modi picked up a broom himself and cleaned up a road on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi when the biggest national cleanliness campaign till date was launched and Mr. Modi nominated 9 personalities (Anil Ambani, Sachin Tendulkar, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Baba Ramdev, Kamal Hassan, Mridula Sinha, Shashi Tharoor) and they further nominated 9 more personalities and the chain reaction went on. Ever since, every famous and successful personality in this country seems to be voluntarily taking up the challenge and doing their part in cleaning the country. Over 3 Million government employees and schools and colleges are expected to be a part of this campaign. This campaign has gone beyond political alliances and become a patriotic drive. This was apparent when Shashi Tharoor (Congress Spokesperson then) became a part of the campaign despite being sacked as a Spokesperson by Congress and the nation criticized congress to make a cleanliness drive political. The campaign aims to accomplish a ‘clean India’ in five years by 2nd October 2019 marking the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

On the day of the launch (2nd October, 2014), a ‘Swachh Bharat Run’ was also organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and over 1500 people actively participated in the run making it a huge success from Day 1. Many independent app developers have come up with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan app and they have been well received.
