Controversy with IPL is never
strange but it met its biggest crisis on May 16 with the rise of 2013 Indian
Premier League spot fixing when three cricketers, Ankeet Chavanthe, Ajit
Chandila and Sreesanth, were arrested by
Delhi Police, on the charges of spot-fixing. In IPL 2013 these three
cricketers represented Rajasthan Royals. In other case, Gurunath Meiyappan and
Vindu Dara Singh were arrested by Mumbai police for having links with eleven
bookies and alleged betting. Amit singh a former player of Rajasthan Royals was
even arrested in case of bookies.
Later these players were
suspended by Rajasthan royals and were set into an inquiry by BCCI which is
headed by Ravi Sawani, the chief of ACSU into allegations. Including more
personnel security with each team, the board enhanced by improving
anti-corruption measures. These arrests became more popular and kicked-off
nation-wide search and arrest of bookmakers such that in India betting is
illegal.
Virender Dara singh called as
vindoo was a film actor got arrested because of links with bookmakers. On May
24 his testimony made the police to arrest N. Srinivasan who is son-in-law of
president of BCCI and a top official from Chennai Super Kings, Meiyappan
Gurunath.
Under the section of Maharashtra
Control of Organised Crime act and Indian Penal Code the players among 39
persons were eventually charge sheeted by Delhi police. After probe of Sawani
found them guilty of spot fixing, life bans to Chavan and Sreesanth was handled
by BCCI(Board of Control for Cricket in India).
